4 days - 3 nights

A wonderfully scenic tour!
It only takes about 1 hour to fly from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani. Then you will be taken (approx. 45 minutes) to the Chon Mekm border, where your German-speaking Laotian tour guide will meet you at the border of southern Laos. From there we drive to Pakse. After an overnight stay in the city founded by the French (1905), a wonderfully scenic boat and adventure trip begins on the Mekong, where the mighty river is up to 12 km wide. There are said to be around 4,000 islands there. Untouched nature and thundering waterfalls dominate the landscape. Rare species of birds can be found here and with a bit of luck you can meet the famous freshwater dolphins on this tour.

Day 01: Flight from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani (07:25/08:30). To be booked separately.
Continue to the Chon Mekm border. Pakse city tour.
After completing the border formalities, the Laotian tour guide drives us to Pakse. City tour of the city founded by the French in 1905, now the capital of Champanssak Province, the southernmost province of Laos, which borders Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Overnight in Pakse.

Day 02: By boat from Pakse to Champassak – Done Khong.
In the morning we take a motorboat south through the romantic river landscape. Water buffalo bathe in the shallow water on the banks, ferries cross the river. Again and again we come across small motorboats chugging along, where monks with their saffron robes and umbrellas that serve as sun protection sit on the roof so as not to come into contact with the female sex. That would be a serious violation of the order's rules. Barges, fishing boats, bathing children and typical Lao villages glide past.
We disembark in the old royal city of Champassak and visit the impressive Wat Phu temple complex on the hill (a world heritage site). This Hindu cult site, important for the Khmer Kingdom (Angkor period 9th-13th century), still serves today as a Buddhist place of worship and as the seat of the Phatengkam, the supreme earth spirit of Champassak, to whose statue offerings are made. After visiting Wat Phu, which, although some parts are only in ruins, still shows its former splendor, we continue our journey. The islands in the Mekong are becoming more and more numerous - there are said to be around 4,000 islands. We dock at an island and enjoy our picnic lunch. In the late afternoon we reach Done Khong, the largest island in the Mekong, today's destination on our Laos tour. Overnight in Done Khong.

Day 03: Done Khong – Khonephapheng waterfalls.
Today is for rest and relaxation in the fantastic and unique world of the “Four Thousand Islands”. We take a speedboat along the river - the Mekong is 11 km wide in places - through the waterways between the islands, visit fishing villages and finally reach the rapids and waterfalls of Khonephapheng.
With elemental force, the Mekong rushes over rocks and forces itself through gorges and narrows, causing the water to roar high. An overwhelming sight! In view of this natural spectacle, we have a picnic. We return by boat to Done Khong, where we spend the night.

Day 04: Done Khong – Chon Mekm – drive to the airport.
From Done Khong we drive (without a tour guide) via Chon Mekm about 80 km to Ubon Ratchathani Airport in Thailand. The flight from Ubon Ratchathani to Bangkok is not included (20:15/21:20 - Air Asia)
