Khao Yai National Park – Khmer culture monuments Phimai and Phnaom Rung –
Drive through northeast Thailand - flight from Ubon Ratchathani to Bangkok included.


An extraordinary tour for nature and culture lovers!
The journey takes us far away from the usual tourist routes through northeast Thailand.


First we drive to the largely untouched Khao Yai National Park, which is one of the five best national parks in the world due to its biodiversity. For example, there is still a population of over 50 wild tigers, over 200 elephants and black bears. In the evening, a ranger takes us through the national park to feed the game. The journey continues through Isaan (northeast Thailand), which is hardly known to foreigners ), where we visit the outstanding Khmer cultural treasures Phimai in Korat and Phanom Rung in Buriram. Finally, we spend a night on the Mekong in a beautiful resort, where we take a boat trip on the Mekong - an absolutely interesting dream trip!

 

Day 1: Transfer from the airport.
You will be picked up at the airport in Bangkok with your name tag at EXIT 3 and accompanied to your hotel in Bangkok. The day is at leisure. Overnight stay in a first class hotel in Bangkok.

 

Day 02: Drive from Bangkok to Khao Yai National Park – Night Safari.
Drive from Bangkok to Khao Yai National Park. We move into our accommodation in Pak Chong near the national park in the new resort complex with a beautiful swimming pool, Khao Yai Nature Life Resort. The rooms are well and comfortably equipped.

In the evening a ranger is waiting for us, with whom we set off on the night safari. On this night game we drive in a pick-up truck with special halogen headlights through untouched mountain forest and a steppe plateau, where we can still see many wild animal species. Sambas (a special species of deer), civet cats and pine martens line our path. Elephants, gibbons, tapirs, wild boars, porcupines and prosimians can also sometimes be found. Overnight at the resort.


Day 03: Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) – Khmer Temple Phimai. Korat. Drive from Pak Chong to one of the largest cities in northeast Thailand to Nakhon Rachasima, also called Korat. Approximately 60 km from Korat (approx. 150,000 inhabitants) is Phimai, a center of Khmer culture with temple complexes from the 11th-13th centuries. Century. The large Buddhist-Hindu temple complex Phrasat Phimai is one of the most beautiful Khmer complexes in Thailand. In the afternoon we still have some time to stroll around the city. Overnight stay in a 4+* hotel in Nakhon Rachasima.


Day 04: Nakhon Ratchasima – Khmer culture: Phanom Rung - Buriram. The journey continues through the Isaan area, which is still largely undeveloped for tourism and awaits us with the over 1000 year old temple complex “Phanom Ruang”, which is also known as the “Angkor Wat” of Thailand. This Khmer temple complex was built in honor of the Hindu god of the universe on a 1,300 m high extinct volcanic cone. From there you have a fantastic view of the picturesque surroundings. The Phrasat Phanom Rung temple complex was built over 200 years and forms a unique symbiosis between nature and architecture. It is the most important cultural and historical building in northeast Thailand. N/F in a good hotel in Buriram.


Day 05: Surin – Phra Viharn – Ubon Rachathani – Khong Chiam (directly on the Mekong). In the morning we drive to Phra Viharn), which is about 1 km outside the Thai border in Cambodia (it is sometimes closed for political reasons). To cross the border we need a permit, which is issued at the border. Prasat Phra Viharn is a Hindu temple that stands on a 500 m high rocky hill and forms the border between Thailand and Cambodia. In 2008 the temple was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For decades the facility has been at the center of a sometimes violent border conflict. We then drive via Ubon Ratchathani to the idyllic resort of To Saen on the Mekong River near Khong Chiam - a fantastic resort complex with a wonderful view of the Mekong River and a beautiful pool. You can assume that we are the only foreigners there.

Day 06: Khong Chiam – boat trip on the Mekong – Ubon Ratchathani. Rest at the resort. Today we relax in the beautiful resort on the Mekong River.

 

Day 07: Flight to Bangkok with Air Asia is included. We are at the resort in the morning. In the afternoon we drive to Ubon Ratchathani. Ubon Rachathani (“Royal City of the Lotus Flower”), a 100,000 population. The city is located in the three-country triangle Thailand - Cambodia - Laos. In Ubon we look at the temple complex Wat Supattanaram, whose monastery was built in the 19th century. emerged from a sect and houses some reliefs from the Khmer period. The largest wooden bell in the world is located in the temple complex. In the evening we fly from Ubon Ratchathani to Bangkok. The flight with Air Asia 7:50 p.m./8:55 p.m. is included.
