An extraordinary journey in the mountains of northern Thailand. Experience the north in all its diversity. The pearl of the north Chiang Mai with its golden mountain monastery Wat Doi Suthep high in the mountains, wild mountain jungle, scenic markets, rustic ethnic mountain tribes in their colorful traditional costumes, the “Golden Triangle” with a boat trip on the Mekong to Laos. We explore the dense jungle landscape with elephants.
A special highlight is the colorful flower park built by the Queen Mother on the 1000 m high Doi Tung mountain.

Day 1: Arrival in Chiang Rai. Transfer to the booked hotel. The day is free. In the evening we recommend a stroll through the scenic, colorful and original night market of Chiang Rai, where the various mountain tribes, some in traditional costumes, offer their goods. Overnight stay in a first class hotel with a pool Chiang Rai.

Day 2: Drive to the “Golden Triangle” – fantastically beautiful flower park on Mount Doi Tung. After arriving in Chiang Rai we drive to Chiang Saen, the old royal city on the Mekong. There we take a boat trip in the border triangle along Burma and Laos. We will then visit an opium museum and your tour guide will tell you interesting facts about opium in the “Golden Triangle”. We then drive to Doi Tung Mountain, 1000 m high, where the king's highly revered mother built a huge, colorful flower park “Mae Fah Luang” in the mountains. Drive to Chiang Rai. Overnight stay in a first class hotel.

Day 3: Chiang Rai – Wat Rong Khun – Mountain Tribes – Doi Mesalong Pass – Thaton. “Longneck Karen” (Longneck Karen). After breakfast we visit the magnificent Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), where a contemporary Thai artist built his life's work. We will then visit an opium museum and your tour guide will tell you interesting facts about opium in the “Golden Triangle”. Drive through a fairytale landscape, past hill tribe villages, on the pass to Mae Salong. Once there, you think you are in a small Chinese village. During Mao's reign, an entire Chinese battalion fled from China via Burma to Mae Salong and settled there. The Mae Salong market offers a unique picture: women from the neighboring mountain villages, in their typical traditional costumes and with blood-red mouths chewing betel, offer their goods (fruit, vegetables, handmade souvenirs, etc.). Then we take a tour of the temple above the village, where an oversized Buddha figure watches over Thaton. Overnight stay in the romantic first class hotel Mae Kok River Resort, located on the river.

Day 4: Thaton - Elephant Camp – Chiang Mai. After breakfast we drive to an elephant camp, where we take part in the daily morning washing of the elephants. In a demonstration we see how the animals are prepared and trained for their jungle mission. (For an additional charge you can ride with the pachyderms through the jungle and river for 1 hour and then glide through the dense jungle landscape on a bamboo raft (€25 per person - please register when booking). On the way we visit an orchid and butterfly farm. Overnight stay in a nice first class hotel in Chiang Mai.

Day 5: Chiang Mai - craft shops – Wat Doi Suthep. F.M. Today you will visit the world-famous craft workshops in Bo Sang and San Khampeng with umbrella making, umbrella painting, silk and cotton weaving. In the afternoon we drive to Doi Suthep Temple (800 m above Chiang Mai). A jewel among Thai monasteries, this temple with a golden chedi offers magnificent panoramic views of Chiang Mai.
